    Job Title: Water Distribution Operator II

    Job summary:

    Under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the operation of the distribution system

    Qualifications: 

    • Grade 12 (minimum), Preferably two (2) year Diploma from a recognized technical school in water related studies
    • EOCP or equivalent Level II or Certification in Water Distribution preferred although a lower certification with the ability to obtain Level II certifications in water distribution in 1 year may be accepted
    • Minimum 3 years experience in a class III facility or higher
    • Chlorine Handlers Certification
    • Class 5 driver’s license with clean drivers abstract
    • Knowledge of the materials, equipment, procedures, and practices used in a utility operations system preferably with groundwater
    • Knowledge of policies and procedures used in the construction, repair, and maintenance of the utility operations system
    • Safety-conscious with a demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
    • Knowledge and experience operating various small equipment and hand tools
    • Experience in the operation of a Rubber tired Backhoe would be an asset but not required
    • Good mechanical aptitude
    • Basic computer skills to work with SCADA systems, Microsoft Office programs and software
    • Certified in backflow prevention and testing would be an asset
    • Plumbing experience within a utility environment

    Duties include:

    • Day-to-day operation of a Level III water distribution system
    • Monitor and record system instrumentation data
    • Dealing with customer complaints
    • Water service repairs and installations
    • Watermain repairs and installations
    • Adjust and maintain Gas Chlorination equipment
    • Assist with water meter reading and repairs
    • Participate with fire hydrant maintenance
    • Assist in flushing of watermains.

    Work hours are Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and could include some after-hours and weekend duties.

    The applicant will also be entitled to the benefits and annual wage increases outlined in the Teamsters Local 213 Collective Agreement.
