For the second time since the end of the summer, flyers promoting the sale of Ivermectin have begun to circulate in Kelowna.

The first such occasion in late September prompted a warning from Interior Health (IH) and the health authority is once again making a public service announcement about the flyers.

“We want to reinforce that Ivermectin (veterinary or human versions) is an antiparasitic drug that has NOT been authorized for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19,” noted IH.
 

The health authority said that using Ivermectin, especially the veterinary version intended for animals, could cause serious health problems.

The theory that Ivermectin can be used to treat COVID-19 has been a popular one throughout the pandemic, but it’s something that has been debunked by various studies.

“Health Canada is advising Canadians not to use either the veterinary or human drug versions of Ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19,” continued IH. “There is no evidence that Ivermectin in either formulation is safe or effective when used for those purposes.”

IH also provided a long list of health problems that can be a result of human’s taking the veterinary version of Ivermectin, especially at high doses.

They include vomiting, diarrhea, low blood pressure, allergic reactions, dizziness, seizures, coma and even death.
