The Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) team was busy Saturday night rescuing an injured snowmobiler from a remote area southeast of Vernon.

On Saturday, the VSAR team was called out to the Aberdeen Plateau, which is near Aberdeen Lake.

According to a social media post, the rider hit ice on a rutted road, which caused his snowmobile to rollover.

The driver was injured and the snowmobiling group deployed their SOS device, allowing for timely communication with the VSAR team.

A total of 19 members responded including trucks, snowmobiles, a rescue toboggan, medics and the helicopter rescue team.

The patient was assessed and then transported by VSAR’s Air Rescue One helicopter and transferred to BCEHS. 

“We wish the patient a smooth and speedy recovery,” VSAR said.

“Accidents happen — and this group deserves recognition for being prepared.”

VSAR commended the group for having a satellite communication system and essential gear for the backcountry.

The search and rescue team thanked everyone involved in the rescue.
