  • Inheritance scam prompts warning form Victoria police

Victoria police have seen a twist in recent inheritance scams.

At least six people have reported receiving letters in the mail advising that a person with the same last name as the recipient has died and has left over 23 million pounds in the bank.

The letters indicate that the person should not reach out to the bank.

They also state that they are entitled to 90% of the funds with 10% going to charity.

Letters were addressed to each recipient individually and delivered to their residences.

Similar to online email-based scams, recipients of the letter scam were asked to reply via an email address.

According to police, nobody has reported being defrauded in Victoria or Esquimalt in the scam.

Police would like to remind the public that this is, in fact, a scam and that no bank would offer anyone money in this way.
