After 30 years of business, Elizabeth Buckley School will close its doors at the end of this school year.

This independently-run elementary school currently has two campuses. One serves kindergarten to grade five students, and the other serves grade six to eight students.

The elementary school currently resides in the Cridge Center for the Family, with the middle school stationed in Nootka Court.

According to the school, the closure is a direct result of the teacher shortage in B.C.

Facing a large staffing shortfall for 2018-19, the Board of Directors made the difficult decision to recommend closure at the end of June.

On April 11, members of the Hands On Summer Camp Society voted for the closure.

“Our family is grateful for the three years our son had at this amazing school.  He has flourished and, as a result, he is a confident calm individual,” said Melissa Phillips, Board of Directors, President.  

“The community was so welcoming and warm, it will be hard to say goodbye to the supportive staff and families.”

Until the end of June, business will be as usual.
