What is your name?
Shauna Carveth
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I grow up in Nelson BC and I have been living in Kelowna for three years now.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My favourite person to hangout with would have to be my sister, Adrienne. She's a bit of a travel bug, but every once in a while she'll come stay with me. We always end up having the best time together.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
It would have to be the Maldives. It looks like the most beautiful place to visit and explore.
What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
The Artful Hand has become one of my favourites. It carries amazing jewelry, paintings and other crafty items. Everything is created and made from artists in Kelowna.
What is your favourite activity?
Creating fantasy makeup looks on myself. I love being able to play with colours and create funky, artsy makeup looks using my creative makeup and airbrush.
If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Tacos for sure. Mexican food is one of my favourites.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
When I was traveling with my friends in Argentina we got robbed from a couple that tricked us by distracting us and telling us we had bird poop on our clothes, which was a lie of course. They then reached into our purses and stole our wallets.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Winning bronze in Best of Kelowna 2017 helped me to realize that my hard work has finally started to pay off. I felt so much love and support from clients, friends and family who voted and supported me through it all.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
It would have to simply be laying in bed laughing and joking around with my mom, sisters and brother.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I've been involved with helping raise funds for the Look Good Feel Better Foundation for women battling cancer.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
It would be banning all animal testing. There is no need to test on animals at this day and age.
What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
I love walking around downtown Kelowna and going into all the funky shops.
Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
The beaches in Kelowna. I love walking alone the water with my feet in the sand.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I would like to see the public transit in Kelowna grow. When I moved here from Vancouver I use to relay on the public transit to get around and it was a bit of a struggle.
What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The amazing weather we have here in Kelowna and the friendly people that surround us.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1) Travel to as many countries as possible, Bali being one of the first
2) Attend the IMATES makeup convention in Los Angles
3) Create my own lipstick line
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I have two amazing cats named Jasper and Lola.
What is the name of your business/organization?
Makeup by Shauna Makeup Artist for Beyoutiful Beauty Artists
Why did you get into/start this business?
I was always more creative growing up. I loved playing with different colours and creating beauty. It wasn’t until I moved to Vancouver that I realized I could become a makeup artist and make a living from doing what I love.
What is the goal of your business?
My goal for being a Makeup Artist is to make every women feel like their best self and to keep growing as a strong makeup artist in this community.
What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
My biggest struggle was following my heart and attending John Casablanca Institute for makeup artistry. I had people telling me it wasn’t a real career and I would never make a living after graduating. I don’t regret it to this day.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I would do the same because I would of never become the person I am today if I hadn't gone through all the ups and downs of my life.
What do you always find yourself saying?
'Come here monkeys' to my two cats and sometimes my boyfriend by mistake.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
I would love to spend the day with Marika D'Auteuil. She is an extremely talented makeup artist from Montreal. I would love to learn and watch her for a day.
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
So we can support each other and keep Kelowna growing with amazing local arts and a strong community.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
It has been working for Beyoutiful Beauty Artists as a head makeup artist and winning bronze in Best of Kelowna 2017.
