Meet Mark Genshorek. He was born and raised in Kamloops!
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My girlfriend Sierra. She's my best friend, my biggest supporter, and she always knows what to say to make me laugh.
What do you always find yourself saying?
'I'm hungry'
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
That's a tough one. I've always wanted to train with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but if I had to spend a day with someone it would probably be Rob and Dana Linn Bailey.
Who or what inspires you?
I draw inspiration from a lot of people in my life. Successful people in my industry, my clients, my parents, my girlfriend, all inspire me to do better.
What are three things on your bucket list?
1. Travel to Peru and visit Machu Picchu
2. Train with some of my favourite fitness professionals
3. Compete in a tested bodybuilding show
What are you passionate about?
I am truly passionate about fitness and nutrition and sharing that passion with others. I think what sets me apart from other trainers is how I spend my downtime. When most people come home from a long day at work, they turn on the TV and relax. When I am home and have some down time, I spend that time reading about or listening to experts in my industry and learning from their different approaches to bodybuilding and nutrition. I spent my free time researching and learning about bodybuilding for many years before I became a personal trainer, and I would still be just as interested in this subject if I had a different career.
What has been your favourite day of your life, up to this point?
I have had a lot of great days. Probably a day spent on the beach in Mexico with my beautiful girlfriend.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
A few things come to mind but I always feel proud when I work out with my dad. He had been out of the gym for many years but I managed to get him in for a session. Now he is in the best shape of his life at 57 years old and I couldn't be happier for him.
Where is your favourite place to dine in your city?
Earls.
What is your favourite activity or event in your city?
I like anything outdoors. Hunting, camping, hiking, boating in the summertime, to name a few.
What is the name of your business/organization?
MarkGFit Personal Training.
What does your business/organization do?
MarkGFit is a personal training business. In short, we teach people how to improve their lives through health and fitness.
Where can people find your business on social media? (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
Instagram.
Where do you want your business/organization to be in five years?
I would like to have my own facility within the next five years. I don't want to grow too much though because I feel like a lot of bigger training companies lose touch with their people because they take on too many clients.
What three qualities do you feel that your business/organization exemplifies?
Knowledge, experience, and results. Through 10+ years of training people professionally in the gym, a background in martial arts, having a Tae Kwon Do black belt and as a former kickboxing instructor, I know how to get clients in shape. But the most important part, I give them the tools to STAY in shape, long after they no longer need my services.
What would you like to say to your employees/volunteers?
The only person who this would apply to is my girlfriend who helps me run the business. Thanks for all your help!
What makes you feel successful? Tell us about it.
I feel successful every time I get a message from a client telling me how happy they are. Or when I go back and look through the dozens of amazing before and after of past clients from over the years.
If you were trapped in an elevator with several wealthy investors from any field, which field would you want them to be experts in? What would say to them/talk about?
I would hope that they would be involved in my field and of course, I would want to hear all about their paths to success in the fitness industry.
If I could change one thing about the city you live in, it would be:
More parking downtown.
What do you think makes your city great?
Kamloops has the feel of a small town but a lot of the amenities of a larger city which makes it a great place to live.
