Meet Kimberly Solecki. Kimberly has lived in Victoria since 2012.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
This is such a tough question! I would say my husband and our kids because time goes by much too quickly. But also like-minded entrepreneurs, I find so much inspiration being surrounded by others who understand your journey.

What is your favourite local store in Victoria and why?
I couldn’t pick just one! Seeing how much heart and soul goes into all the local businesses makes them all special and unique.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Europe! The architecture and scenery is stunning.

What is your favourite activity in Victoria?

    Afternoons at the beach.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
When we first moved to Victoria I had decided to go to the liquor store to go get a bottle of wine, I tossed on some pants and off I went. When I got back into my car, I realized my dog had chewed a giant hole in the bum of my pants.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Long before I opened my own business I followed a lot of different companies within the wedding industry. I would constantly find myself in awe of what these entrepreneurs were creating, the detail and concepts. When I entered the wedding industry I had these amazing women who I did, (and still do idolize) reaching out to help my business grow, to share knowledge and offer support. It’s inspiring to me what a community all these women have made for the current companies and for the ones still to come.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I would have to say camping! Both my parents worked a lot when we were younger, especially my Dad. Every summer they would take 2-3 weeks off work and we would go camping as a family. Even now, with a family of my own it’s one of our favourite activities!

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?

    Poverty.

Where would you sneak away to in Victoria to spend some time alone?
Dallas road is my favourite place to clear my mind or read a good book.

Where would you like to see positive change in Victoria and why?
Affordable housing, I think this weighs heavily on a lot of young people and families trying to start out.

What do you think makes Victoria great?
I find everyone in Victoria is so friendly! I find it to be a very welcoming city

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
    1. Travel – Europe, the States, Iceland, Australia, Africa
    2. Speak at a convention
    3. Own a farm

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I had my eldest daughter when I was 16.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Facebook seems to be the most popular outlet!

What is the name of your business/organization?
    Borrowed and Blue Events.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I originally started out doing some behind the scenes work for a few friends who owned wedding-related businesses, after finding out how much I enjoyed it I decided to give it a go!

What is the goal of your business?
To have a company that allows couples to have a stress free experience in planning their wedding. It’s such a special and monumental time in their relationship.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Balance. Balance of family life and work life. Creating hours for work, and sticking to them so I am able to also enjoy my family.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I honestly don’t think I would change a thing! I think all experiences bring knowledge which is an asset to growing as both a person and a business.

What do you always find yourself saying?
I always find myself telling the important people in my life how much I value them.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Don't ever give up; I’ve been told the universe falls in love with a stubborn heart.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
if I had to pick just one person, I’d probably pick Ellen.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Because when you shop locally you’re supporting another family, you are helping the business that they’ve been poured so much into grow and thrive.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My children. I don’t think there is anything that is comparable to being a mom

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
My husband, without his support and encouragement I wouldn’t be filling out this form. He makes my passions a possibility and balances my life when I need it the most. I couldn’t be more thankful for everything he does.
