What is your name?
Jordane Joneson.
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kamloops?
I was born and raised in Kamloops. Aside from residing in Vancouver and Whistler between 2010-2014, I have always lived in Kamloops.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My daughter Ella, my pug named Oscar, and of course my partner in love and life, Troy. They are all my favourite living creatures to spend time with. They love me unconditionally and always make me laugh.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Paris, France. To sit with the newspaper and sip coffee by myself as well as to capture some beautiful photos, of course.
What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
This is tough. I have a favourite local shop for everything. A few favourites are Petland for their service and knowledge. No Limits Fitness for their culture and the consistent, positive attitude, they greet me every single time I walk in, which is everyday. And I could brunch at Hello Toast literally everyday.
What is your favourite activity?
I love a variety of activities, but my favourite is doing candid photography for people and events, especially if we capture these moments outdoors.
If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Tacos. If Mexican was the last food on earth, I would be fine.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Once, okay maybe twice, I tried to dye my hair blonde on my own. Let's just say I wasn't successful.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Joining Csek Creative. I am at the peak of my career and I have never been inspired by such an incredible team that motivates me to shine!
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I love the camera. I used to record my own cooking show, which involved me making Jello and "gourmet" tomato soup for my Nana. She was my biggest fan!
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I enjoy supporting the Elizabeth Fry Society. My mother in law has a strong role with Elizabeth Fry and I love helping women and children. This will be my second year volunteering to do the photography at Hearts for Homes Gala by E. Fry.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I have two suggestions. Zero harm to animals and people to better use their manners.
What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
Taking advantage of the lakes and hiking trails around Kamloops. I absolutely love taking out the Sea-Doo at our cabin on Adams Lake!
Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
The comfort of my own home after a mega house clean with the sound of the dryer running.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
Drug use for those who struggle. I just want safety for our children who explore in the public areas. Playgrounds are meant to be safe for our kids.
What do you think makes Kamloops great?
We have a very supportive and compassionate community. I am so grateful to be a part of Kamloops.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. Italy
2. Skydiving
3. Go on a safari. Although I may be too scared of the wild but I really want to see a Zebra.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I am actually a bit of a daredevil with the need for speed. This may surprise some people because I am a rule follower and fear getting into trouble.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
Instagram and Facebook. I have taken a strong liking to expressing my thoughts on Twitter. Do you follow Chrissy Teigen? If not, you should. Hilarious!
What is the name of your business/organization?
Csek Creative and KamloopsBCNow.
Why did you get into/start this business?
I enjoy building strategy for businesses to increase their traffic and revenue. I am not biased to any medium, so I like to educate clients on their options.
What is the goal of your business?
To educate businesses on marketing and the value of advertising. I think it is important for business owners to learn how to connect with their potential customers. To increase revenue, you must deliver value and to deliver value, you must figure out the best way to do that to each specifically potential customer. Basically, I like to help businesses grow!
What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Oh goodness. This question is certainly difficult to answer, but truly has been life’s biggest struggle for me. I like to have a positive outlook, despite this experience. My biggest life struggle has been mourning the loss of our daughter’s twin sister due to complications during my pregnancy. This really is bittersweet, since we are blessed with such an incredible miracle child. No job or challenge has been a struggle like this one. I, one day hope to speak more openly about it, so women who may be at risk to a similar disease will be able to better cope or read the signs for TTTS. My hope is that unique twin pregnancies will be better researched for risks. We are very grateful to have a strong and healthy little girl.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
No, I am pretty content with my life's path. I am a strong believer in things happen for a reason.
What do you always find yourself saying?
'No'. I have a nosy toddler who gets into everything. She also likes to feed the dog from the fridge. She also find ways to get on the bathroom and kitchen counters, where she can play with the taps. I guess this is a discovery phase and I will continue to find new words to use other than 'no'.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Ellen Degeneres. Her personality is exceptional and would make for an exciting day!
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Supporting our local businesses is extremely important for our community. Although, prices and the convenience of corporate stores seems more beneficial, keeping the money in the community is better for our local economy. The quality of goods and services by local vendors may also outweigh the quality from big box stores as well.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Becoming a mom! I have the most incredible miracle child and feel so lucky to be a part of motherhood.
Give someone you think that deserves a shout out and explain why!
My dear friend, Tara Holmes. This woman is incredible and surprises me everyday. From radio personality to matchmaker and most recently an innovator of her very own start-up idea – Tara never seizes to amaze me with her creativity and passion! You go girl!
Judy Basso.
