  • In Focus | Jessica Lichon

Meet Jessica, she brings her imagination to life with photography! You can often find her friendly face editing at pulp fiction, don't be afraid to say hi!

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
    1998-2000 then 2005-2018.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Pulp Fiction coffee house. I enjoy the experience there – the smell of vintage books, pulp fiction illustrations decorating the walls, and the taste of delicious chocolate milkshakes.

    Describe yourself in one word.
    Silly

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I would go anywhere in the world right now if the opportunity arrived. I would go to Japan in a heartbeat in the early spring to see the cherry blossoms and other plants in the surrounding area.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
I love outdoor sports, especially independent sports that you can enjoy with others. From numerous hiking trails with breathtaking views, biking downhill on Knox Mountain, longboarding on wide roads, paddleboarding on Okanagan lake on a hot summer’s day.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Halloween, grade nine – I was with a group of people and we were sitting on someone's front lawn… When we left, this awful smell followed us, and at the end of the night, we realized the smell was coming from me… I sat in dog sh*t.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Watching the moon set on the horizon and the sunrise in the opposite direction.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
All the summers I spent in Poland at my grandmother's house. One day, my sister, cousins and I were sitting at home watching television when my sister saw something on the rug. When she glanced again to see what it was we saw a mouse and it startled all of us. We literally jumped onto our chairs as if the mouse was going to eat us. We screamed until the poor little thing had a heart attack on the floor.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I volunteer at the Kelowna Community Resources. I've also volunteered as a research assistant at the University of British Columbia. A few years ago, I did an art project with Karis Support Society.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
To employ more environmental technologies .

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
I'd be in the middle of a meadow in the woods with my camera strapped around my neck.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I'd like to see the community take more efforts to become environmentally friendly. Think more about future technologies rather than sustaining the old outdated technology. To become more efficient.

What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The outdoor activities and beauty of it have kept me in Kelowna.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

    1. Go to Japan to see the cherry blossoms.
    2. Go kayaking in the Ocean and see some whales.
    3. Go to eastern Canada.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
    I read the obituaries weekly

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
    Facebook : www.facebook.com/lichonphotography Instagram: @lichon_photography website: www.lichonphotography.com

What is the name of your business/organization?
    Lichon photography

Why did you get into/start this business?
I first resonated with fine art/conceptual photography in my freshman year of university. Procrastination led me to find my passion. I was enchanted by the fine art photographs circulating around the internet.

What is the goal of your business?
To travel the globe and document my life's adventures.

What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
My biggest struggle in life has been speaking Polish.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
At the moment, I would do things the exact same. Who knows how I will feel in a few months from now.

What do you always find yourself saying?
    Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.

Tell us your best piece of life advice.
    Have a laugh

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Follow Quentin Tarantino on a film set.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
We should all be supporting one another! When you shop within your own community you're supporting everything.

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Having strong relationships with my family and friends.
