Meet Janine Sampson! Janine has lived in PG for nearly 19 years!
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My husband, because he makes me laugh and we can talk for hours.
What is your favourite local store in Prince George and why?
Downtown PG Famer's Market, there's great vendors and I love supporting local business.
Describe yourself in one word.
Connector.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
England & Scottland. England because my husband I promised his mom we would go to England to visit where her Dad walked the streets during the War. And a trip to Scotland because I have family roots there and I love learning more about my family
What is your favourite activity in Prince George?
The rest and relaxation of walking.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
there is way too many to decide! you can ask my closest friends * smiles *
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
The moment I realized I can do anything I set my mind to and complete it! For example, my master's degree thesis was written about myself and my own healing journey with running and self-reflection.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
After my grandmother passed away, my parents would bring my grandpa on family trips with us to Victoria and Edmonton. My grandpa didn't say too much but it was nice to have those memories of being with him.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
People would make amends and not let hurts of the past take over their lives.
Where would you sneak away to in Prince George to spend some time alone?
Starbucks or Second Cup and crank the music on my headphones. I did this a lot when I was writing my thesis.
Where would you like to see positive change in Prince George and why?
I would like to see positive change in the relationships amongst First Nations and the rest of the city's population. For those who don't know Indigenous people or about our history. We would only become stronger as a city.
What do you think makes Prince George great?
The people, Prince George has that small town feel and most people know each other, or you are like one or two degrees away from knowing others. It's the small town city feel that I like about PG.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
1. When I was in grade five, I did a report on Brazil. I've always wanted to travel to Brazil to visit the rainforest and meet the Indigenous people of Brazil.
2. Have a year-round cabin on river or lake front.
3. Travel to Israel.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I like watching the older TV comedies like the Jeffersons, Three's Company and All in the Family.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Instagram: janinerzzz Linkedin: Janine Sampson
What is the name of your business/organization?
Indigenous Pathways Company & I'm a Le-vel Brand Promoter.
Why did you get into/start this business?
I never liked the 9-5 work day and I found my two businesses in consulting and as a Le-vel Brand Promoter allowed me to break free from that mold. As a Brand Promoter, I want to earn $ to have the time freedom to be with family and travel the world.
What is the goal of your business?
To help fill in capacity gaps for First Nations by specializing as a community engagement lead. With Le-vel I want to help everyone with addressing nutritional gaps with vitamin supplements.
What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Making a mountain out of a molehill.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I wouldn't change things, as I would not have seen the successes and challenges that have made me who I am today.
What do you always find yourself saying?
"oh dear" I thought it was so cute when my aunt would say this in her kind worrisome way, and I picked it up.
Tell us your best piece of life advice
It's ok to say no to things that don't align with your gut instinct.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Lisa Nichols, a writer and motivational speaker I recently saw on a Facebook video. Her high school teacher told her she wouldn't amount to her dreams to become a writer. She bowed down to comfort zone pressure and picked a mundane job that drove her near crazy! Then she realized that was not where her path was and now is a successful author and motivational speaker. I would love to pick her brain and get personal feedback from her.
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
To support the local economy and support local business owners. I love when I can support small businesses.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Finishing my master's degree thesis which was based on my own life story.
Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Juanita Nikal, cause she is a great friend and she loves adding extra makeup beauty for women for special occasions and weddings.
