Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Our visitors! We love talking with the people who visit Huble Homestead and sharing our history with them.

What is your favourite local store in Prince George and why?
Seebach and Huble General Store, of course. It’s full of delicious pie, handmade local goods, and lots of candy! It’s a comfortable place to spend some time.

Describe yourself in one word.
Welcoming.

What is your favourite activity in Prince George?
We are biased but we love being at Huble Homestead and especially enjoy the many events we host through the year. We also have a great time attending other community events such as BMO Kidz Art Dayz, the BCNE, and the Prince George Regional Heritage Fair.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
In 2012 we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Huble house, which was built by Albert Huble in 1912. It was very special to celebrate with our community through all of the special events and projects we worked on that year.

Where would you sneak away to in Prince George to spend some time alone?
Well Huble Homestead is a great place to explore alone along the river trail or around the park, but we are also partial to several other Regional Parks, including McMillan Creek and Wilkins, both right near the city.

What do you think makes Prince George great?
Its people make Prince George great. Our city has so much to offer and it is all thanks to the hard work and care that citizens put into their community.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
Huble Homestead Historic Site is located in a regional park, but it is operated by a charity, Huble Homestead/Giscome Portage Heritage Society. All of the money you spend at the historic site stays is returned into the charity.

What is the name of your business/organization?
Huble Homestead Historic Site.

Why did you get into/start this business?
Our charity was founded in 1984 by a group of citizens who believed that the historic Huble house should be preserved in its original location. There was a proposal at the time by the local brewery to move the house into Prince George.

What is the goal of your business?
Our goal is to preserve and share the history of the Huble Homestead, Giscome Portage, and surrounding area.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Well hindsight is 20/20 so there are probably some improvements or changes we might make if we did it all over again, but overall things at Huble Homestead would likely be very similar, and we think that’s a good thing.

Keep a diary, just in case your family homestead becomes a historic site!

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Spending your money locally makes it go so much farther. Local businesses employ local people, support other local business, and become part of the fabric of our community. It keeps goods and services in our city and it just feels better!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
We are proudest when we step back and see how the work that we have done over the past 30 years has preserved a piece of our heritage for the community. It is especially rewarding to see visitors who visited us when they were young return to share the experience.
