Meet Harj, he grew up in Merritt and relocated to Kamloops in 2009. Harj is a mortgage specialist at RBC Bank in Kamloops. He works hard every day to help Kamloopsians find the best mortgage that will suit their lifestyle, he wants you to achieve your home ownership goals!
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My girlfriend, being in a long distance relationship is definitely tough therefore we appreciate every minute we spend together. My family is also very important to me!
What is your favourite local store in Kamloops and why?
Home Hardware because I'm always working on some sort of project!
Describe yourself in one word.
Practical
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Italy – I've always wanted to go but couldn't squeeze it into my last trip to Europe!
What is your favourite activity in Kamloops?
Working. I love meeting new people and helping them buy their first home, second home or investment property!
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I probably shouldn't be publishing this but tearing my pants at a wedding reception in Vegas… hands down an experience I'll never forget!
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I can't pinpoint an exact inspiring thing, I'd have to say being raised by my parents and watching them work hard, achieve their goals and continue building from there. My upbringing provided me with inspiration and an education that I otherwise probably would not have ever had.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Ahh… back to being a kid! Way too many memories, I would say Saturdays at my childhood home when my dad would barbeque dinner, my brother and I rode our bikes and got up to no good!
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I am a strong supporter of the Children's Miracle Network! Every year, Dairy Queen has "Miracle Treat Day" where all proceeds of Blizzard sales go to the BC Children's Hospital. I volunteer to help out on this very busy day because I love the cause. In addition, we support many other local charities and organizations through work.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Eliminate hate and discrimination. I believe if we can all treat each other equally, many of the other issues we face today would be resolved.
Where would you sneak away to in Kamloops to spend some time alone?
Kenna Cartwright; hiking is a great way to relax and the views are amazing! And also cruising in my '69 Camaro!
Where would you like to see positive change in Kamloops and why?
I would love to see more revitalization done to our downtown core. I think we are implementing some good ideas but we need to keep up with other cities to attract and retain tourism.
What do you think makes Kamloops great?
The people and our landscape!
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
- Go skydiving
- Travel to Italy, Greece and Croatia
- Expand further into real estate development (residential and commercial)

Why did you get into/start this business?
I became a mortgage specialist because I enjoy helping clients with one of the biggest purchases of their lives; it's a very fulfilling career. I believe home-ownership is a very big step and there's a lot involved.
What is the goal of your business?
To make "someday" happen.
What has been your biggest struggle either at work or in life?
Balance. Life is crazy!
What do you always find yourself saying?
It's all good.
Tell us your best piece of life advice.
Everybody dies but not everybody lives… okay, yes, that's a Drake quote but think about that!
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Warren Buffet. A whole day with this man would be extremely valuable!
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
By supporting a locally owned business, you are supporting many families as most businesses employ local residents. Businesses contribute to local causes and this is what makes Kamloops great!
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Purchasing my first home was a great accomplishment! That gave me further motivation to help others achieve the same goal.
