Meet Dylan! He is one of the awesome faces of our news team. Dylan has worked as a journalist writing for KelownaNow for more than a year. If you see him on the weekend, he is probably spinnin' some sick beats as DJ Maple Jordan. Catch him as one of the artists at one of your favourite late-night destinations. He'll even be playing a COG this year.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Anyone and everyone from my crew! Shoutout to my girlfriend Leah and my parents as well. Always inspiring. Always hilarious. KelownaNow is also full of hardworking, creative people that make all those hours in the office really enjoyable.
What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
Spending a lunch break at Milkcrate is always worthwhile and One Boardshop (Deviate/Island Snow) has been the top spot for years. The new Doja Lounge on Bernard has great vibes too.
Describe yourself in one word.
Stoked.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Burning Man, for obvious reasons.
What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Chasing waterfalls… or pow days. Sneaking in some quality time at local breweries/on patios is time and money well spent too.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I made a big deal about getting my license when I was 16, and the day I received it I said "peace out" to everyone on the school bus . A week later, I crashed my car and rode the bus for rest of high school. A humbling experience, but it was probably for the best in the long run.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
It's a total cliche, but I went to Sasquatch Music Festival when I was 18 in 2009 and the weekend blew my mind. The open-minded people, larger than life artists and being somewhere that felt inspiring has always made me want to pursue music and step outside the ordinary.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
When I was 14 my family spent the entire summer in a motorhome driving to a small surf town in the Baja. It was a challenging bonding experience for us that I will never forget. I was also stung by a sting ray…nbd.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I try to always offer DJ services to friends and professionals around the city hosting events.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Plastic is the worst! So many changes need to be made in the world, but bringing a reusable bag to the grocery store is a good way to start.
Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
I love cruising on my bike while listening to music. It's a great way to take some time for yourself, while still interacting with the world around you.
What do you think makes Kelowna great?
The summer weather, the snowy winters and the inspiring community. It’s amazing to live in a city with so much opportunity, that still has a personal feel around town. There's always great events to attend and just chilling on the beach is also an option.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Attending Burning Man, summiting Everest and interviewing Diplo.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I 100% used to have dreadlocks while playing my band Pull Incase of Fire.
