Meet Corey Allan Hawkins! Corey is new to PG and has only lived here for two months!
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
Shana is my favourite person. I moved to PG with her. She loves playing tabletop/card games with me. We watch a lot of Netflix together. We also share a love for trying new cuisine; whether that means going out or cooking at home. She's my best friend.
What is your favourite local store in Prince George and why?
Probably Long & McQuade. I'm a musician and love recording myself and others.
Describe yourself in one word.
Musical.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Italy. I'd love to see the artwork, drink the wine and eat the food.
What is your favourite activity in Prince George?
I love looking up at that big open sky. The sky here can be breathtaking. It can be polluted. It can give you a nearly perfect sunset. It's one of my favourite things to do here. Just to pause and look up.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I once flooded a bar in Chicago. Wasn't sure i'd make it out of there alive.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
I had the chance to meet Anthony Bourdain in person. I've got to ask him questions twice. He called me monster this time. I got a few things signed. He really inspired me to try new things. I'm still very saddened by his loss.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I grew up in Maple Ridge, BC. Playing street hockey with my friends every Saturday was the norm. Summers, every day. We'd walk to Ben's Market for slurpee's or hockey cards. We'd go to Robotronics and rent video games to play. I don't think there is really one specific memory. Just a feeling of freedom and happiness. You don't have a care in the world at that age.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I served on the environmental Committee for Port Moody. I was invited to speak at the Port Moody Arts Committee in regards to suggestions on what Port Moody could do to further itself in the Arts.
I've played countless benefit shows for Animal rescue groups such as PAWS. I've raised cash and goods for the Vancouver Food Bank and also did a benefit for Speeding.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I'd wish to eliminate racism, sexism, bigotry and xenophobia. I'll never understand how someone could hate another human for those reasons.
Where would you sneak away to in Prince George to spend some time alone?
Probably my home. I live on an acreage. It's very peaceful. Lots of birds chirping, I can hear the wind in the grass and blowing the trees.
Where would you like to see positive change in Prince George and why?
I'd like to see more places open their doors to live music.
What do you think makes Prince George great?
I really enjoying meeting the various business owners and hearing their story's. A lot of good people in this community.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
I want to start a business in either aquaponics or wine or both 🙂
I want to visit Ireland and see the home of my great grandmother Sara Hawkins.
I'd like to finish my recording studio build.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I really love watching things grow and come to life. I really enjoy farm work. I find it relaxing.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Find my music on Facebook and Instagram @coreyallanhawkinsmusic or on Instagram @coreyallanhawkins
What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Finding stability and happiness. I think that equates to both my professional and personal life.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I think I'd do things mostly the same. I know I would have put my savings into Apple when they were $86.00 a share lol. But otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing. I've had a good life so far. Just trying to improve myself constantly.
What do you always find yourself saying?
I don't believe in the word "no", or "not my job." I'm also a big fan of the word accountability. Be cognizant of your actions and words.
Tell us your best piece of life advice
Eat the amazing food. Step out of your comfort level any time you can. Live in a different place at least once. Travel. Meet new people. Don't be afraid to visit the places others tell you not to. Ask questions. Don't be afraid to say "hello" to someone.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
I would love to spend a day in the studio with Trent Reznor. I think he's a musical genius. His knowledge of sound, and producing and arrangement and really just everything. I think I'd spend more time listening than asking questions.
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
I love shopping locally. It's great for the local economy. It keeps locals employed. And spreads the wealth.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My musical career has always been a proud source of accomplishment to me. I've always worked hard at it. I continue to strive for new sounds or ideas. It's been my longest relationship aside from family.
Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Shout out to Shana, Monty and Mr. Bear. They're everything to me. I'm very thankful to have them in my life.
My choice for the PrinceGeorgeNow In Focus spotlight is:
Bailey from Trench Brewing.
Some general comments I would like to share are:
I'm still looking to form a band. I love to sing folk/old country. It'd be nice to find others who are good musicians to play with. No egos. Just friends, good music and beer. I'll record the magic.
