Meet Analisa Self! She has lived in PG for 10 years!
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
I love spending time with my family.
What is your favourite local store in Prince George and why?
I have so many favourites! Can't pick only one! But I'm loving The London right now.
Describe yourself in one word.
Funloving.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I'd travel around Canada visiting family and friends I don't get to see often enough.
What is your favourite activity in Prince George?
Camping, fishing, snowmobiling.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Tripping/falling out in public. It seems to happen often.
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Networking with other women in business who support each other.
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Spending time with my family at our cabin. Family holidays to Vancouver and the island.
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I collect gently used beauty products and clothing from friends and salon clients to donate to the Phoenix house and other programs around town. I offer a discount on retail salon products in exchange for donations as well.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
There are lots of things, but I'd be happier to see more people being conscious of their impact on the environment and our planet. I know lots of people are on board with recycling, but clothing waste is a huge problem these days. Fast fashion in particular. I do a lot of vintage and second-hand shopping and look for unique and well-made items if I'm buying new. Think of that new $5 shirt you bought, wore it once and then it fell apart. It couldn't be donated so it ends up a rag or in the landfill. Now think of everyone around the world doing the same thing. It's just about living consciously and respecting our planet. It's something I'm constantly working on.
Where would you sneak away to in Prince George to spend some time alone?
Connaught Hill or a walk by the river.
Where would you like to see positive change in Prince George and why?
It's already happening, but I love seeing new businesses open up around the city! Downtown in particular.
What do you think makes Prince George great?
PG is a caring and supportive community. It's a great place to raise a family as well. If you enjoy the outdoors, there is no shortage of things to do.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Travel the world, go to as many concerts as I can, a shopping spree at Gucci ( a girl can dream).
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I am an introvert! I know it sounds weird as most people assume I'm very social and outgoing.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
Facebook or Instagram @pinupshairlounge
What is the name of your business/organization?
Pinups Punks And Pretty Things Hair Lounge.
Why did you get into/start this business?
I've always wanted to work for myself.
What is the goal of your business?
To make hair dreams come true.
What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Finding balance between family and work. I'm still trying to get it right.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I'd do everything the same! Every challenge and triumph I've had has brought me exactly where I should be.
What do you always find yourself saying?
You only live once, treat yourself.
Tell us your best piece of life advice
Be your authentic self, it may make others uncomfortable at times. You will be happier and fulfilled if you don't let others opinions dictate who you should be and how you should live.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
That's a tough one. Probably Lady Gaga. She is just an amazing human!
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
You are supporting some else's family and maybe even their dream of owning their own business.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My family. My beautiful kids D's Charlotte and Weston.
Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
My girl, Mandy Paavola. She is a true gem and inspiration. She has done so many wonderful things for Prince George.
My choice for the PrinceGeorgeNow In Focus spotlight is:
Katie Farella owner of Nail Crush and esthetics.
