(UPDATE: 12:45 p.m.) – Prince George RCMP have arrested the female driver involved in a fatal collision that took place yesterday evening. 

Michelle Dac has been arrested and charged with impaired driving causing death. 

She has since been release from custody with a pending court date.

RCMP continue to investigate the collision. 

(Original story: 7:36 a.m.) – Yesterday at around 4:40 p.m., Prince George RCMP received multiple reports of a serious collision involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian.

According to RCMP, the crash took place on the highway between 18th Avenue and 22nd Avenue.

The female pedestrian was struck by the single vehicle and was rushed to the hospital. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

It has since been confirmed that she was a student at the College of New Caledonia.

The 47-year-old female driver was arrested on scene for impaired driving.

“We are deeply saddened by the news tonight that one of our students has died as a result of this collision,” said CNC President Henry Reiser.

“Our first thoughts go out to the student’s family, to whom we offer our sincerest condolences. We also grieve with those closest to this student, including roommates, friends, classmates and instructors who were with them during their time on campus.”

The college has put special measures in place to help those closest to the student through this difficult situation.

RCMP and the college are working together to contact the next of kin.

CNC has support services available to both students and employees on campus.
