The top seed going into the eight-team Okanagan Valley senior A girls soccer championship, the Immaculata Mustangs lived up to high expectations with four straight wins this week in Vernon.

Not only did the Mustangs go undefeated in the eight-team showdown, they also didn’t allow a goal on the way to earning the No. 1 Okanagan berth at the upcoming 16-team B.C. School Sports provincial tournament being played in Nakusp. Immaculata finished third in the province last year.

A 4-0 victory over No. 2 seed and defending-champion Similkameen of Keremeos capped the perfect two-day tournament for Immaculata as Flora Watt scored twice and sisters Sarah and Kyra Donick each added a marker. Samantha Cruickshank was the shutout goalkeeper.

Kyra Donick led the Mustangs with seven goals in their four games while Sarah Donick added four. Eight different players scored goals while Cruickshank recorded the four whitewashes between the posts during the two-day event hosted by Vernon Christian School at Marshall Fields.
The Kelowna Christan School Knights finished third in the Valley tournament and will join Immaculata, Similkameen and Desert Sands of Ashcroft as Okanagan representatives at the BCSS provincial tournament May 30-June 1.
