(UPDATE: Jan. 3 @ 7:30 am) – Crews have reopend Hwy 1 after a previous vehicle incident had closed it in both directions.

Both directions of traffic were previously shut down, but traffic is now flowing both ways.

There is, however, still a snowfall warning in effect for the highway.

(Original story: Jan. 3 @ 6:30 am) – An early morning vehicle incident has closed Hwy 1.

The closure is around 25 kilometres east of Sicamous, between Straga Road and Avoca Road.

Emergency vehicles are now on scene and assessing the situation.

However, there’s no estimated time for the road to reopen and no detour currently available.

A snowfall warning has been issued for Hwy 1 as well, which means travel will likely only get harder as the day goes on.
