(UPDATE: 10:15 a.m.) – Highway 1 and Highway 3 have both reopened for travel.

However, driving conditions remain very poor on both routes and it's advised to avoid all unnecessary travel.

(Original story: 8:15 a.m.) – If you’re driving between the coast and the Interior this morning, you’ll be forced to take the Coquihalla.

Highway 1 was shut down between Hope and Lytton late in the early hours of Saturday morning and remains closed as of 8 a.m.

The reason for the closure, according to DriveBC, is an “avalanche hazard.”

An assessment is currently in progress and there’s no estimated time for the road to reopen.

Highway 1 isn't the only closure, as Highway 3 is also closed between Hope and Princeton, which means the Coquihalla and Highway 99 through Whistler are currently the only available routes between Kamloops and Lower Mainland.

The Coquihalla remains open, but a highway alert is still in effect for the highway and driving conditions are very poor.
