The Kelowna Rockets wanted to give their home fans something to cheer about with an extended stretch away from home on the horizon.

Unfortunately, they were doubled up 4-2 by the Prince George Cougars in their final game at Prospera Place before Christmas.

The visitors jumped out of the gate with a pair of goals to take a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the night.

Gabriel Guilbault’s first of the season for Kelowna made it 2-1 late in the first, while Hayden Paupanekis scored the Rockets other goal in the middle frame to make it 3-2 at the time.

While Kelowna pressed for an equalizer in the third, Jett Lajoie’s insurance goal with just under four minutes left made it 4-2 Cougars and iced the game.

Joshua Ravensbergen stopped 30 of 32 shots for Prince George in the victory, while Harrison Boettiger’s six-game win streak was snapped despite a 35-save performance.

The Rockets now head on the road for seven games before the holiday break, beginning with a trip to Seattle on Friday before they head east for their Saskatchewan and Manitoba road trip next week.
