The Kelowna Rockets lost a hard-fought divisional battle on Saturday night.

The home fans were treated to extra hockey, however, as the Prince George Cougars needed overtime to escape Kelowna with a 3-2 victory.

The game was scoreless after one period despite the Cougars firing 21 shots at Harrison Boettiger in the opening 20 minutes.

Kelowna bounced back with a 17-9 shot advantage in the middle frame and it helped the team to a 2-1 advantage courtesy of goals from Ty Halaburda and Tij Iginla.

After Prince George tied the game in the third, Iginla’s World Juniors teammate Carson Carels won it in overtime with his 10th of the season.

Another member of Canada’s World Junior team, Joshua Ravensbergen made 29 saves in the win, while Boettiger was named first star thanks to a 46-save performance in the loss.

The Rockets now head back on the road for Wednesday and Friday night games in the United States before returning home to host the Penticton Vees on Saturday.
