  • ‘Heavy snow’ expected for Hwy 1 on either side of Revelstoke today

The BC Interior is already littered with highway alerts due to heavy winds expected around the region today.

One particular drive will be even more challenging due to snow in the forecast, which has prompted a separate alert from Environment Canada.

The snowfall warning covers the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) on either side of Revelstoke, from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.

According to Environment Canada, the “heavy snow” is a result of a strong Pacific frontal system that is to blame for the windy conditions as well.

“The snow is expected to intensify this afternoon and will taper off overnight,” the weather alert reads. “Snowfall totals will range from 20-30 cm by early Tuesday morning.”

Environment Canada notes that weather in the mountains can change suddenly and produce hazardous driving conditions.
