    Former Warriors forward signs NHL contract with the Carolina Hurricanes

    For the sixth time in franchise history, the West Kelowna Warriors are celebrating one of its own making signing a big league contract.

    This time, it’s Jason Cotton, who signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes today.

    The 25-year-old played two seasons in West Kelowna between 2013 and 2015, nothing 51 goals and 120 points in 116 games.

    After one season split between Northeastern University and the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms, Cotton transferred to Sacred Heart University where he enjoyed three very successful years.

    His 37 points this season gave him 81 total points over 110 career games and has him nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, which will be handed out in April.

    Prior to Cotton, the five Warriors alumni who have inked NHL deals were Colton Sissons (Nashville), David Pope (Vancouver), Justin Schultz (Pittsburgh), Kevin Boyle (Anaheim) and Nathan Lieuwen (Buffalo).
