  • UPDATE: Fire northwest of Merritt considered ‘held’

    (UPDATE: May 2 @ 11:15 a.m.) – The fire located just south of Merritt-Spences Bridge Highway is now considered held.

    Taylor McDonald of the BC Wildfire Service says the 16-hectare fire was tackled by six BCWS members on Wednesday and another 10 today.

    They were assisting the Lower Nicola Band.

    According to McDonald, the fire is still suspected to be human-caused.

    (Original story: May 1 @ 10:50 p.m.) – A wildfire was spotted northwest of Merritt on Wednesday, according to BC Wildfire.

    BC Wildfire's last recording of the wildfire pinned it at 16-hectares in size just south of the Merritt-Spences Bridge Highway off Hwy 8.

    The fire is suspected to be person-caused at this time.
