On Feb. 6, the Port Mann Traffic services were on routine patrol on Highway 1 through the Langley/Surrey border.

According to police, a vehicle was allegedly travelling well over the posted speed limit.

The vehicle caught the attention of Traffic Service when the driver changed lanes without signalling and crossed over into the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane.

When the driver was stopped by police, officers noticed the vehicle had a very still “passenger”.

In order to drive in the HOV lane undetected, the driver dressed a mannequin and propped it in the passenger seat.

Once found out, the man was issued several tickets for the alleged offences.

The “passenger” did not protest and travelled with the officers in the police car to her new home.

"We routinely conduct patrols on Highway 1 to enforce all the traffic laws, including HOV violators," said Corporal Garth Domm of Port Mann Traffic Services. "This is one of those cases where the RCMP got their mannequin. The passenger exercised the right to remain silent."

Police would like to take this time to remind motorists that in order to drive in the HOV lane you must have a minimum of two people in the vehicle.
