One is a lakefront development of two curved, white, stepped-terrace condominium towers.
The other is a lakeview contemporary, transitional farmhouse rancher with a walk-out basement.
Both are Central Okanagan projects that won Georgies, the provincial award of the BC branch of the Canadian Home Builders' Association.
Winners were announced and trophies handed out at a ceremony over the weekend at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Vancouver.
The gala was billed as a gathering of the brightest stars in the BC home building industry to celebrate excellence in 52 categories covering construction, renovation, design and marketing.
Movala
This development of side-by-side 10-and-14-storey towers in Kelowna's trendy South Pandosy neighbourhood won the Georgie for 'best multi-family mid/highrise'.
The two buildings ascend elegantly into the sky with a curved, stepped-terrace shape that creates a 'wow' visual impact.
It's also a practical design that allows every one of the 325 condos on every floor to have either an Okanagan Lake and-or mountain view and a maximum of natural light.
There's also a dozen townhouses on the lakeside of the development facing Watt Road.
Movala was built by Stober Group, the same developer behind the office towers of Landmark in mid-town Kelowna and many of the condos and apartments at Central Green in downtown Kelowna.
Begrand Fast Design was the associate co-winner.
A quick look online shows that 6 units condos are listed for sale at Movala ranging from a two bedroom-two bathroom, 820-square-foot unit on the 8th floor for $849,000 and a three-bedroom, three-bathroom, 1,600-square-foot condo on the 7th floor listed for $1.45 million.
The Oakhaven
The Oakhaven is the show home by 3rd Generation Homes in the Shorerise master-planned community at the southern end of the Westside Wine Trail in West Kelowna.
It's described as a transitional, contemporary farmhouse rancher.
While it appears to be one-storey from the front, the sloped site allows for a walk-out basement in the back that makes the home look much bigger.
In all, has 3,786-square-feet of living space, four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a great room with high ceilings and a wet bar, master suite with attached office and gourmet kitchen with walk-in pantry.
The Oakhaven won the 'best single-family detached production home over 2,500 square feet and over $750,000 in value'.
Associates in on the win with 3rd Generation are Su Casa Design, Westeck Windows and Quality Air Care.
The Oakhaven also picked up the prize for 'best interior design in a single-or-multi-family production display home over $100,000'.
Associates on the interior design win include Su Casa Design again, Kekulii Bay Cabinetry andf Express Flooring.
Shorerise is being developed by Emil Anderson, the diverse company that builds roads and bridges as well as residential communities like Kelowna's Dilworth Mountain and Tower Ranch.
The Oakhaven's builder — 3rd Generation — specializes in custom homes and has also built homes in Sailview Bay and McKinley Beach.
