This year’s Climb for Cancer event raised over $50,000.

“It was a very energetic environment with a ton of great personalities,” said Doug Bell, organizing committee member.

People from all over Prince George, Smithers and Vanderhoof came down to donate their time and money to a wonderful cause.

All funds raised went to support the Kordyban Lodge that helps support those individuals and families who are undergoing cancer treatment.

The lodge provides housing and additional services that make patients feel at home.

Over 450 individuals ages two to 79 came out to climb the cutbanks.

“This was a 50% increase over last year. It is continuing to grow. We saw a lot of repeat individuals as well as a lot of new faces,” said Bell.

Teams were encouraged to raise as much money as possible.

The winning team that raised the most funds was The Winers. All together, they raised $4,500.

The day event also had other fun challenges such as fastest and oldest climber.

“I think people both in Prince George and in the North recognize the difficulties people face while undergoing cancer treatments. By participating in events like this we can bring a sense of community and a sense of home to these individuals,” said Bell.

“This event couldn’t have happened without the tremendous support from the community.”
