  • City of Victoria making headway in redesigning Crystal Pool Complex

HCMA Architecture and Design has been awarded the contract to provide architectural and engineering services for the Crystal Pool and Wellness Centre Replacement Project.

The next phase will include more community engagement to develop a detailed design and construction schedule.

The HCMA consulting team has extensive experience in designing environmentally-sustainable, accessible and inclusive recreational facilities. In the last five years, the HCMA team has completed more than $200 million worth of aquatic and recreation facilities.

Back in February, the Council had an unanimous vote to replace the 50-year-old Crystal Pool complex. A budget of $69.4 million was approved for the project.

The City of Victoria has invested $10 million from its Building Infrastructure Fund for the project. The remaining funds will come from external sources including other levels of government.

Funding partnerships may eliminate the need for the City to hold a referendum to borrow funds.

The accessible pool and wellness centre are expecting to increase visits by 35% annually.

    The facility will include:

    • 50m x 25m pool
    • Family change rooms
    • Expanded fitness centre
    • Multipurpose rooms for events and programs

The current Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre will remain open during construction. The new building is set to go up next to the current centre in Central Park.
