Emerging artists now have two outdoor exhibition opportunities to showcase their work in Victoria.
Call to Artists encourages artists to submit proposals to exhibit their artwork at the Commercial Alley Outdoor Art Gallery’s sixth annual installation.

The outdoor gallery will be located between the 500 Block of Yates Street and Bastion Square.
The proposed artwork is to be presented as a series of four 1.2 meter by 2.4 metre panels. Artists, however can cut and reshape the panels within structural limitations.
The selected artists or artist team will be paid $2,000 for the display.

In addition to the outdoor gallery, the City is also introducing Commute.
Commute is a bus shelter-based exhibit which will showcase 18 artworks on six bus shelters in Victoria.
From July 2018 to June 2019, the Commute exhibition will serve as an entry point for emerging artists who have had little opportunity to participate in public art.

The exhibition is open to emerging, Indigenous and multicultural artists, craftspeople and artisans residing in Victoria and the Gulf Islands.
Artists can submit up to five suitable original works of art.
The selected artist will be paid $500 per displayed image.

Proposals for Commute as well as Call to Artists are to be emailed to culture@victoria.ca by 4 p.m. on Monday, April 9.
All submissions will be juried by a selection committee including artists, community members, design professionals as well as a representative of the Art in Public Places Committee.
Selected artists will be announced in late April.
