  • City hall trees to be used for non-profit art projects

The City of Prince George has put out a call to all artists, artisans and craftspeople to create a one-of-a-kind piece using the discarded trees that were previously in front of city hall.

The City is asking all artisans to give the wood a second life by creating a work of art that will be donated to a non-profit organization of your choice.

“The call is open to anything. We want people to be as creative as possible,” said Doug Hofstede, community coordinator for the city.

Each non-profit will be able to use these works of art as a way to fundraise in the future.

Artisans will be able to use the 70-year-old American elm and green ash free of charge.

Branches and trunks will be available in a variety of lengths and diameters to ensure creativity and individuality.

“The wood itself has character because of the history. It will be a wonderful work of art because of that,” says Hofstede.

In order to participate, artisans must contact Hofstede with a design proposal, images of previous work as well as a letter from a non-profit organization.

Hofstede can be contacted via email doug.hofstede@princegeorge.ca.

All applications will be accepted until May 22, though Hofstede will not disregard late applications if wood is still available.

Visit the City of Prince George website for more information.
