  • Blazers on the brink of elimination after game 4 loss

There’s no more room for error for the Kamloops Blazers.

After an 8-4 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds in game four on Thursday, the Memorial Cup hosts are at risk of an extended break before the tournament begins later this month.

Seattle now leads the Western Conference Final 3-1 and is just one win away from earning a spot in the WHL Championship against the Winnipeg Ice.

To say game four was a wild, high-scoring affair would be an understatement.

The Thunderbirds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals from Dylan Guenther and Kevin Korchinski in the first 12 minutes.

Matthew Seminoff cut the lead in half late in the frame, but Guenther scored his second of the period with just two seconds left on the clock to restore the two-goal advantage.

Olen Zellweger single-handedly erased that deficit with two goals in the second, his 10th and 11th of the post-season, but Seattle took over from there.

Kyle Crnkovic just over two minutes after Zellweger tied it, then Jared Davidson and Bryce Pickford found the back of the net in the first half of the final period.

Dylan Syder wired a shot by Thomas Milic to make it 6-4 with eight minutes to go, but Guenther’s hat trick goal and an empty-netter from Reid Schaefer put the game out of reach.

Milic made 36 saves for the game four victory, while Dylan Ernst surrendered seven goals on 40 shots.

The Blazers will now need three straight wins if they want to keep their WHL season alive and that effort begins with game five in Seattle on Saturday.
