This is some breaking news!

  • Big White officially opening Thursday in a limited capacity

Big White is set to open for the 2019-20 ski season on Thursday.

It’s an exciting time for anyone that has been itching to get up on the mountain, but you’ll have to pump the brakes on the expectations for now.

As you may have noticed, the Okanagan hasn’t received a lot of snow so far this winter.

Big White has received 97 centimetres of cumulative snow since the start of the season, but it’s only produced a 21 cm alpine snow base.

As a result, only one lift, the Bullet Chair, and three runs, Sun Run, East Street and Free Way, will be open to the public when the resort opens on Thursday.

To make up for the small amount of terrain that will be available to ski or board, lift tickets and rentals will be 50% off until further notice.

Elsewhere around the BC Interior, Sun Peaks opened up for the winter this past weekend and SilverStar is expected to open on Thursday as well.
