Restrictions are slowly starting to be eased in British Columbia, but that doesn’t mean that non-essential travel is allowed yet.

The BC Government is asking people to stay within their communities and BC Ferries is doubling down on that request ahead of the long weekend.

“In keeping with direction provided by the Province of British Columbia last week, we continue to advise customers to avoid non-essential travel at this time,” said a statement from BC Ferries.

The statement added that many communities served by BC Ferries have issued advisories regarding limited supplies, healthcare equipment and resources.

That means it’s even more important that you don’t visit Haida Gwaii, the Gulf Islands or the Sunshine Coast.

BC Ferries still has a 50% capacity on all boats to support physical distancing and is allowing customers to remain in their vehicles during a sailing, a practice that is typically not allowed.

All food and retail outlets at terminals and on board the ships, including vending machines, remain closed until further notice.
