The team at Ballet Kelowna has been working tirelessly this January on their newest showcase which will premiere at the Kelowna Community Theatre on the night of Saturday, Feb.2.
Elles: Extraordinary Dance Created by Women will feature four unique pieces of dance created by four female choreographers who are currently some of the most accomplished in Canada.

The showcase, though it has been in the works since mid-2017, comes at a time where female empowerment and the work of females in the arts is in the international spotlight.
“In the world of ballet, female choreographers are quite rare, you don’t see big ballet companies commisioning female choreographers all that often,” said Artistic Director and CEO of Ballet Kelowna, Simone Orlando.

“And as an artistic director who is female and in Canada, I think it is really important to support both emerging and established choreographers, I really wanted to promote some of the leading dance makers in the industry today and that happens to be these four women,” added Orlando.
Elles will feature two world premieres, one from Gioconda Barbuto, her fourth piece for Ballet Kelowna, and one from Alysa Pires, which will be her very first work commisioned by Ballet Kelowna. In addition, viewers can expect to be encapsulated by crowd favourite pieces, Folie A Cinq by Heather Myers and Glas by Gabrielle Lamb.

The dynamic program will take the audiences from dancing in their seats onto a roller coaster of emotions.
The one-night-only performance will also feature a pre-performance party at 6 p.m. that will allow attendees to get a behind the scenes look at what goes on behind a Ballet Kelowna production.

Attendees will have the chance to mingle and enjoy treats from local wineries and caterers along with watching the dancers warm up for their big night.
The curtain will rise at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night. Tickets for the performance and pre-party are available online and at Kelowna Tickets in Orchard Park Mall.
