This is some breaking news!

  • Avalanche control will close the Coquihalla for 4 hours today

Crews will be performing avalanche control on the Coquihalla Highway today.

The work will take place around the Great Bear Snow Shed, about 50 kilometres east of Hope.

As a result, the route will be shut down to traffic from 11 am until 3 pm.

According to Drive BC, plans could change based on weather conditions, as is always the case with avalanche control.

Hwy 1 and Hwy 3 can both be used as detours while work is underway, but planning your travels around the four hour closure is likely the smartest move.
