Over the last few months, we have run several stories and letters to the editor regarding the highly debated UBCO tower.

Kelowna seems to be divided around the topic of more high-rise towers, especially in the downtown core.

One of our readers wrote, "It's not the building of high rises per se that concerns me; it's that developers want approval to build so many of them close to, or on the waterfront, such as the tower trio (heights of 33 storeys, 27 storeys and 20 storeys) along the 500 and 600 blocks of Coronation Avenue."

In another piece that we ran interviewing the president of the Kelowna South Central Association of Neighbourhoods, Susan Ames (who is running for Kelowna city council), she states that "It's 20 storeys higher than the maximum height allowed in Kelowna with the 2040 Official Community Plan that was just signed in January."

Mayor Colin Basran is looking forward to the project, stating “I just think that there are so many positives to this project. I am really excited to see this project break ground and really looking forward to it increasing the vibrancy to our downtown.”
