A local realtor has announced his bid to join West Kelowna city council this fall.

Anthony Bastiaanssen is looking to bring his wealth of experience in the real estate game to a seat on council and hopes to draw on his previous leadership roles to do that.

“Being an effective leader isn’t just about having opinions on issues, it’s about being able to collaborate with others to get where you want to be,” he said. 

“The City of West Kelowna is on a great path, and I’d love to be part of that continued growth and development.”

Bastiaanssen grew up in Kelowna in the 1970s and 1980s and has raised his own family in West Kelowna for more than two decades.

He’s been working as a realtor since 2006 and has held a number of volunteer leadership roles during that time.

He was president of the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board in 2016 and chair of the BC Real Estate Association in 2020.

Bastiaanssen currently serves on the governance committee for the Canadian Real Estate Association, as a governor for the Real Estate Foundation of BC and volunteers as treasurer of the West Kelowna Yacht Club.

“Great communities don’t just happen on their own,” he added. “Good people need to commit their time and efforts in support of their neighbours and community.”

Bastiaanssen’s platform focuses on economic vitality, community livability and both social and environmental responsibility.
