Unsurprisingly, the Okanagan sky will be dominated by smoke today from numerous wildfires burning in the region.

Although it has nothing to do with the fires, the temperatures will also continue to cool down as we continue towards the weekend.

“The sun and cloud today will be filtered by smoke from the local fires. As an upper low starts to swing into Southern B.C., we will continue to see temperatures gradually cool down as we approach the weekend,” said Wesla English, NowMedia meteorologist.

“Temperatures will be in upper 20s to low 30s today, and in the mid 20s by Friday and Saturday. This area of low pressure will also bring the slight risk of afternoon showers.”

The UV index will get up to nine today, so even if it doesn’t feel like the sun is beating down on you because of the smoke, sunscreen is still advised.

Once again, the pollen index is moderate but the concern today may be air quality with so much smoke in the air.

Although an advisory hasn’t yet been issued, try to avoid spending long periods of time outside.

This is especially true for the elderly, children and those dealing with asthma.
