This is some breaking news!

  • A busy summer of construction continues at Big White

Crews are working hard at Big White to get a number of new additions and renovations ready for the ski season.

It’s part of the resort’s largest single year investment in history as the mountain is spending around $10 million to make a number of improvements.

That includes a new Power Chair, skier tunnel and staff accommodation, as well as work on phase three of Stonegate Resort and the mountain’s hiking and biking trails.

Crews will continue work on tower footings for the new powder chair until mid-September, as towers and new lift stations have been arriving piece by piece.

Construction is still anticipated to be completed for the 2018-19 winter season.

The resort’s new skier tunnel continues to roll along as well, with crews currently taking off the forms of the second wall.

Next up is the backfill of the tunnel and work on forming and pouring retaining walls, followed by the bridge top being installed in mid-September.

The project is on track for a mid-October completion date.

Furniture is being added to the first building of new staff accommodation, which will be ready for occupation this winter.

Meanwhile, groundwork has been laid for buildings two and three and crews are working on pouring the footings for those two buildings.

The last 12 units of Stonegate phase three are being finished up and some owners have already taken possession of their units.

As for trails, work continues on a new blue flow trail in the Ogopogo zone, which is expected to be finished next week.

Once complete, focus will shift to a black flow trail that will run parallel to the new blue trail and be ready for riding in two to three weeks.

Meanwhile, the Bumble Bee trail is being revamped and rerouted to avoid Paul’s Lake, the new Powder Chair construction site and the uphill section leading into Snow Pines.

That work will be complete in mid-to-late August.

As for hiking, there’s a brand new trail that winds through the alpine at Big White.

It’s called Alpine Meadows and it’s being touted as one of the most beautiful accessible trails on the mountain, with gorgeous views, abundant fields of wildflowers and trickling streams.

There’s lots going on at Big White, but still plenty to enjoy this summer and even more to look forward to as the ski season gets closer and closer!
