  • 7 things to do this long weekend

If you're like many other people in Kelowna, the weekend for you is all about enjoying the city at your own leisurely pace. Maybe you’ll head to a new to you local restaurant, support our small business owners or check out a fun community event. No matter what you may get up to, Kelowna always has something fun to do on your days off.

If you want to get out and about this weekend but aren't sure where to start, here is a list of great things we think you should check out on your weekend excursions.

    Penticton Farmers Market

Known for the bumping environment and incredible fresh produce, the notorious Penticton Farmers' Market is making waves with Kelowna locals. The Market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and features everything from live music to fresh fruit.

Another must make “pit” stop in Penticton is a visit to The Peach Ice Cream Shop for one of their new crazy shakes. A massive milkshake, topped with whip cream and different chunks of baked goods, makes for a picture perfect and delicious addition to your day.

    Fireworks

Although the Canada Day celebrations were wonderful, things just weren’t the same without fireworks. Luckily, the booming vibrancy will enchant us this Saturday night. Following live music at Stuart Park, the fireworks will take place from across the lake starting at 9:30 p.m. so be sure to get a good spot!

    Cherry picking

It just wouldn’t be summer in the Okanagan without a little fruit picking.  If you haven’t hit the orchards yet this year, then a long weekend is the perfect time to do so. If you have family in town or just want to get a group together you can check out a few different places, like Kempf Orchards, to spend a few hours among the fruit, picking out the best of the best and having a few nibbles along the way.

    Hit the beach

If you don’t feel like doing much other than soaking up some rays, then you probably want to spend your day at one of the stunning beaches we have surrounding us. From Hot Sands Beach, to Kal Beach and Antler Beach, the Okanagan has beaches galore, so why not take advantage of the heat and lake this weekend? You’ve earned it.

    Atlantis Waterslides

Though the beach is always ideal, sometimes you want to add to the hype a little bit. A short drive from Kelowna, in Vernon there is a water park oasis just waiting to greet you. Atlantis Waterslides isn’t just home to a great view but some of the most fun you can have in the area, so grab your goggles and check it out for a day of sliding and splashing around.
