  • 6 festive events to check out this weekend

If you're like many other people in Kelowna, the weekend for you is all about enjoying the city at your own leisurely pace. Maybe you’ll head to a new to you local restaurant, support our small business owners or check out a fun community event. No matter what you may get up to, Kelowna always has something fun to do on your days off.

If you want to get out and about this weekend but aren't sure where to start, here is a list of great things we think you should check out on your weekend excursions.

    Hit the slopes

Aside from looking beautiful, more snow means more winter fun. Baldy Mountain Resort in Oliver will open for the season this Friday, and in addition to opening their lifts, the annual,  First Chair Festival will be taking place. Expect local vendors, twinkling lights and of course steaming hot cocoa!

If you’re sticking around the other end of the valley this Friday and want to enjoy some festive fun after a day of carving up the hill at Silverstar, make sure you take in their Christmas Light Up. Equipped with a snowshoeing adventure through dazzling lights, local talent, and a memorable firework display, this is a great way to get into the holiday spirit!

    Breakfast with Santa

There is no better way to get on the nice list than joining the man in red for a tasty morning meal in support of a great cause. The Okanagan Mission Community Hall will be hosting Breakfast with Santa on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Help Santa fill his sleigh for the Kelowna Food Bank and Kelowna Santas by bringing an unwrapped, new toy to the event. Tickets are available on eventbrite.com

    Craft Culture

The time has come, Craft Culture is back with their annual Holiday Market. Known as Kelowna’s largest craft fair, you can expect close to 200 artisan vendors, featuring everything from baked and canned goods to handmade jewellery and clothing all under the Prospera Place roof!

The event runs Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry is just $5 at the door, and youth under 12 get in for free!

    Festive Fun in Rutland

The 9th annual Christmas Extravaganza will take place in Rutland Centennial Park this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.! Grab a buddy, and hunt through over 60 vendors tables to cross a few things off your list. Admission is free but a donation to our local food bank is encouraged.

To keep the holiday happenings going, you can finish off your weekend at the annual Uptown Rutland Christmas Light Up! With everything from hockey with the Kelowna Chiefs to indulging in warm chili and carolling, you can be sure to enjoy an afternoon of fun in the Rutland community all before the tree comes to life at 4:30 p.m.

To see a more comprehensive list of events taking place in our community you can head to our events calendar! If you would like the Now you KNow cruiser to be at your next event, send an email to events@kelownanow.com.
