  • Blazers ship out draft picks to acquire goalie from Pats

The Kamloops Blazers have swung a deal with the Regina Pats.

Unfortunately, it’s not the Connor Bedard blockbuster that many Blazers fans have been asking for, but it’s a deal that adds some important depth in net.

Kamloops has added 18-year-old goaltender Matthew Kieper in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2023 draft and a sixth-round pick in the 2025 draft.

“This was a good opportunity to get a couple of draft picks back and to give Matthew a fresh start,” said Pats GM and head coach John Paddock.

“This is a great opportunity for him. He’s been a good Pat and has represented us well and will continue to do that for the Blazers. We wish him all the best.”

Kieper has posted a 23-22-1-2 record in 55 career WHL games, along with a 3.88 goals against average and .873 save percentage.

The Winnipeg native was originally taken in the third round of the 2019 WHL draft by Regina.
