In this episode of Cseking In, we sat down with Jennifer Turton-Molgat, president of The View Winery & Vineyards to talk about how her entrepreneurial journey took her from teaching grade school to making cider to running a highly successful winery.

Given that the land that The View Winery sits on has been in Jennifer’s family for five generations, it’s perhaps not all that surprising that her path led her to operating the winery. But, as she tells Nikki, this was not the path she initially set out on. Before starting The View, Jennifer worked as a schoolteacher for children in Grades 3-7, a background that she sees as crucial to her success as a winery-operator and entrepreneur.

“I still find myself teaching a lot in the industry that I’m in because people love to learn about wine!” she explains, adding: “Any kind of university degree, I feel, gives you the skills needed to problem solve, to be investigative, to learn, to do what has to be done to meet deadlines.”

During her teaching career, Jennifer was approached by her father, who was managing a cider business on the property at the time, with the request that she start up a winery on the land. And, as you may have guessed—she said yes! And that was the start of a bumpy road leading to the popular winery she runs today.
