  • Blazers add a pair of prospects in 2021 WHL US priority draft

The Kamloops Blazers added a pair of prospects to the pipeline during today’s WHL US priority draft.

The draft consisted of two rounds, 44 picks, with each WHL club being able to make two selections. The Blazers picked 10th and 35th overall.

With their first selection, Kamloops took Mac Swanson from Anchorage, Ak.

The 5’6”, 145 lbs forward had 29 goals and 42 assists in just 32 games playing for Team Alaska U15 AAA during the 2020-21 season.

The Blazers then looked south for their second-round pick, selecting 5’10”. 170lbs defenseman Sam Webster.

Webster plays for the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes U15 AAA team and a pair of his teammates were taken by the rival Kelowna Rockets.

The order of today’s draft was determined in June through a draft lottery, with all 22 WHL clubs having an equal chance to obtain the first-overall pick.

Players born in 2006 and residing in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming were all eligible to be picked.

Anyone not selected will remain eligible to be spiked in tomorrow’s 2021 WHL prospects draft, formerly the bantam draft, or listed by a WHL club at any time thereafter.
