If there's an upside to this pandemic it's that our homes are spick and span.
COVID prompted quite the cleaning spree and sales of cleaners have surged up to 68% as a result.
Cash-back platform Ibotta took a look at spending habits from July through December last year and found kitchen surface cleaner was the runaway favourite purchase with that 68% spike compared to the same six-month period in 2019.
All-purpose cleaners saw a 49% hike, clean tools spiked 19%, dish detergents and soaps saw a 12% bump, bathroom cleaners up 6% and laundry supplies up 5%.
The zeal for disinfecting started with us wanting to make sure the novel coronavirus wasn't lurking on any commonly used surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom.
As we spent more time at home during the pandemic, many of us noticed how dirty the baseboard had gotten and a deeper general clean ensued.
Cooking and eating more at home also contributed to the need for more kitchen cleaner, dish detergent and soaps.
It's surprising bathroom cleaners only saw 6% growth.
But it's probably because we're using kitchen and all-purpose cleaners in the powder room rather than letting the toilet, tub and vanity get filthy.
Of course, there's also the possibility that our homes really aren't 68% cleaner.
We may have purchased all that extra spray, scrub and soap with good intentions, only for it to sit in the cupboard under the sink and our homes are more or less as clean as they've always been.
