Anyone who started their holiday break early by taking off work today is going to be very happy with their decision.

As expected, that valley snow meant great things for Big White and the resort says it received 18 centimetres of snow over the past 12 hours.

That shoots the alpine snow base up to a health 127 cm.

To add to what will certainly be a great day on the hill, the Gem Lake Express opens for the season today as well.

That means 13 lifts and 75 runs are now open for you to enjoy.

It’s currently -2°C at Big White with cloudy skies, moderate wind and limited visibility.

Oh, and a whole bunch of fresh powder, of course!
