This is some breaking news!

  • Contemporary Christmas

In November I participated in Homes for the Holidays in support of Central Okanagan Hospice.

This event is a self-guided tour throughout private homes in Kelowna taken over by designers and decorated for Christmas. The home I decorated is owned and built by Jennifer & Chris Little of Little Building Solutions.

The home is a modern family home with several of Little Building Solution’s signature features like concrete floors, white walls and parallam beams. I didn’t want to take away from the design elements of the home, so I kept the decor neutral and natural. My concept was to keep everything white, flat black, wood, fresh greens and concrete ( yes, concrete for Christmas!)

A few budget-friendly tips to achieve this look is to spray paint your old decor. Lots of our items were brass, red and silver from previous years – a few coats of matte black spray paint will give you the modern, Scandinavian feel.

Another inexpensive project was the modern light tree my design team made. Using a good sheet of plywood with a clear coat, we drilled hooks in the outline of a large triangle and then strung white lights back and forth creating a Christmas tree effect.

I wanted real marble chargers but the budget wouldn’t allow for the real thing so I picked up these tiles at Express Flooring and they were a hit!

A New Leaf Floral Design wowed everyone with her use of Eucalyptus! This type of greens made the house smell amazing and was specifically used to tie in the home owner’s Australian roots.

Hammers & Heels helped keep the decor simple with simple, modern holiday signs.

A minimalistic tree, or “ Charlie Brown” tree as some called it, doesn’t overwhelm the room and shows off the ornaments. I searched everywhere for concrete ornaments and finally, Okanagan Originals came to the rescue!

It was an honor to be part of this event for the second year in a row and I couldn’t have done it without my design team: Luxe Camp Canvas & Event Rentals (Tracey & Rebecca), Michelle Brandel, A New Leaf Floral, Mack Metal Works, Jon Adrian Photography, Okanagan Originals ( Carys Jones) and Hammers & Heels. A huge thank you to Little Building Solutions for opening up their beautiful home and letting us take it over, without homeowners like Jennifer & Chris, this event couldn’t have been possible!
