Hwy 1 closed near Rogers Pass today for avalanche control

Crews will be performing avalanche control near Rogers Pass today.

As a result, the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) will be closed from 9 am until 4 pm.

People travelling between Revelstoke and Golden will be let through on occasion, but delays up to two hours should be expected.

There’s no detour available.

If you’re not totally sure what avalanche control entails, Transportation BC released a video of crews performing a series of controlled blasts along Hwy 1 in February 2018.

As is the case today, the avalanche control work shut down Hwy 1 for safety reasons.
