Dan Audy can safely say he’s Kelowna’s poutine champion.

In September, he qualified for the 9th annual Smoke’s Poutinerie World Poutine Eating Championship (WPEC) through the regional qualifying right here in Kelowna.

That gave him the chance to head to Toronto for the WPEC this past weekend, where he made poutine lovers in Kelowna quite proud.

Audy placed second in the competition’s amateur division, only losing out to Joel from Waterloo, who wolfed down an impressive 8.5 pounds of poutine in five minutes.

The professionals were on a whole other level though.

Famous eater Joey Chestnut took home the trophy by eating 17.5 pounds of poutine in 10 minutes.

Saturday’s competition was held in front of a respectable crowd at Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square.

Next year will be the 10th annual edition of the competition and we can only hope that Audy has plans to head back and gun for first place.
